One Couch at a Time

We are entering a generation where ACCESSIBILITY is triumphing OWNERSHIP.

"One Couch at a Time" is a full length feature documentary following protagonist and veteran CouchSurfer, Alexandra Liss, through 20 countries, 5 subcontinents, for 6 months using CouchSurfing.org as an in-depth, extreme case study on the benefits leading us to "the age of sharing."

Imagine: If CouchSurfing is a planet, then the "sharing economy" would be the galaxy. We are focusing on the micro by capturing the magical, heart-warming, serendipitous exchanges that occur one couch at a time.

Each host and traveler along the way provide unique experiences becoming sub-subjects illustrating the incredible exchange. Alexandra, who begins the journey heartbroken from a failed relationship, ends up unexpectedly learning lessons of a lifetime with the help of a few worldly friends.

Contrary to mainstream opinion, by embracing the "age of sharing" mentality is to have access to methods which make the pursuit of your passions and dreams merely a couch a way. The film begins in SE Asia, then Southern Africa, Western Europe, South America and climaxes at Burningman, the ultimate gift society! OCAT premieres Feb 2012.

Bill is… chill. He’s a cynical shell with an optimistic center.

Film-maker and CouchSurfer, Bill Bowles (www.iambill.com) contacts me Oct 7, 2007 out of the blue to connect with other SF filmmakers.  I invite him to join cser Journey Jill and I as we pitch the CouchSurfing documentary to Casey Fenton and the CS collective over THREE YEARS AGO. Beyond all the hundreds and now thousands of pitches to CS, that night we were the first and only ones to get approval/support from the collective on our idea… Using Couchsurfing.com as a platform to fulfill 3 International CSers greater missions.

I moved to New York and lost touch with Bill. Furthermore, the CS doc was put on hold …until NOW!

Three years later and in S.F, I randonly contact Bill and ask for his help to shoot my portion of the Viral Video… As soon as we start working together, I get the feeling that he is destined to partake in this project and tell him he should be my camera guy and travel the world with me…

As I start to finally reel him into the idea and we are talking about logistics, he says “wait, so you just want me to come along so we can fall in love, only for you to leave me for your husband at Burningman…”

I paused. That would make an excellent story arch…
